Communities of the Sisters of St. Joseph

Connecting and collaborating worldwide . . .

The Sisters of St. Joseph was founded in Le Puy, France by the Jesuit Jean-Pierre Médaille and accepted as an order by Bishop Henri de Maupas on October 15, 1650.

Today, there are approximately 14,000 Sisters of St. Joseph worldwide serving in 54 countries.

We are all living our lives in a new context... the context is global and our mission is to be lived within this context. We have a universal mission. We are being called to have a global heart.”

(From "Welcome to Lyon" by Janet Gagnon, CSJ on the occasion of the celebration of 200th Anniversary of the re-founding of the Sisters of St. Joseph-July 2008)
